My Day - A Post by Faith

Choir

Today I did choir for the first time and it was fun. Mrs F did one song that I knew. One of those songs was one that I liked and the other one was one that I really like, it was so funny.

News

Today at school I did a Book Sell for my news. I did Fox in Socks by Dr Seuss. I liked the middle and the end. My favourite page is the gooey goo for chewy chewing bit.

Red and Black Day

We had red and black day for the earthquake. We had to put our heads down for a minute's silence and it hurt all of our necks. Finally we were allowed to put our heads up and went to class. I wore two of my mum's tops and my black tights.

Fun Run

Today Faith ran/walked the 2km Kids in the City fun run.

This is the first time she’s ever done anything like this, so she was pretty proud of herself, and we were proud of her too. In the past she’s shied away from things like this, she absolutely hated the Cross Country running at school, but when the boys signed up for the Surf to City she decided she’d give it a go too. She’s even keen to do it again next year, as long as Mum runs with her.

The weather was perfect, not too hot, but dry and no wind so we all had a good day at the park. On our way out we found the teddy bears picnic that was also happening in the park today, and so we stayed a while longer and joined in the fun there as well.

It was a tired but happy Faith that we tucked into bed tonight, bursting with news to tell her teacher tomorrow.

Well done Faith.

A post by Daddy

Faith and I went out today to the park.  We took our dog Jools for a walk.

We had lots of fun playing on the swing and also on the green pole.

We went to the BMX track after the park for a look around. Faith enjoyed throwing the stick to the dog.

Faith told me that the boys had been climbing on the roof of the building at the BMX track and throwing car tires off it.

On the way home Jools kept going into people’s driveways so we had to tell her off.

Family Time

Today was Waitangi today so the kids and Chris all had the day off. We went for a walk along the Forest Hill track.

Faith led the way for most of it, pointing out interesting bits and pieces along the way, and surprising us with just how fit she is these days! (She pretty much raced along the track and didn’t even get warm – I, on the other hand, was exhausted pushing the pram up the hill and actually said at one point ‘I’m just gonna have a wee lie down’.)

Faith has an eye for details, and she would notice the tiniest flowers and cobwebs and point them out to us. I found myself photographing things for her that I might not even have noticed if she wasn’t there.

Back to school

Faith has just finished off the first week back at school for 2012. She started on Wednesday so it was a short week, which is a good way to start getting back into the school routine without getting too tired. She’s happy to be in Mrs Fallow’s class again this year, as Mrs Fallow has returned to the middle school after teaching in the Junior school last year. She had so wanted to be in Room 8 and was all smiles when her named was called in assembly at the start of the first day.

She was stoked to be chosen for Class Leader since she already knows Mrs Fallow’s way of doing things, and has jumped back into school life with gusto. She comments on things I probably wouldn’t have given much thought to, like how she loves her schoolbooks because they have small lines, instead of big lines like her Junior schoolbooks used to have, and how she hates it whenever she leaves the middle school block because the juniors are so noisy. Basically, she’s loving the idea that she’s a big girl now, and being back at school has really brought that home for her.

I’ve reminded her though, that no matter how old she gets, she’ll always, always be my baby princess.

My Two Front Teeth

By the end of November Faith’s two front teeth were wiggly, and she was hoping more than anything that they would fall out by Christmas so that she could go around singing 'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth'.

But those two teeth stayed stuck, despite the fact that they became so wiggly that they would move when she talked. It was quite comical really.

A couple of days ago, she finally lost the first one. She put it under her pillow and the next morning, found that the tooth fairy had left her a shiny dollar coin.

The result was that the second of the two teeth became even wigglier. Dangly even. The thing sat crooked in her gums and jiggled furiously whenever she talked. You could hear it clicking as it knocked the other teeth. Most of the time, I couldn’t stop staring at it as she spoke.

All day today, she played with that tooth, poking it with her tongue and wiggling it backwards and forwards with her finger. By bedtime, it was hanging there by just a corner, and we were worried it might fall out while she slept and she’d end up swallowing it.

So Dad pulled it out. It took less than a second apparently, he barely touched it and the thing popped right out and landed on her tongue, so she almost did swallow it. I came in and she was howling about blood, even though there was hardly any and it pretty much stopped bleeding immediately, that’s how ready this tooth was to come out. Then, suddenly she smiled, and stood up and sang

'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth...'
